The Patrol Electric Scooter represents one of the best values that we
have seen in 2003 -2004 holiday season. The Patrol is designed so that
it can be used by both kids and adults and is perfect for road
cruising. The great thing about the Patrol is that it doesn't have a
plastic deck like the "dolphin / Duck Boat type" electric scooters. The
Patrol's deck is made out of sturdy, skateboard type, steel deckplate
and both durable, and easy to stand on. The plastic-deck scooters
typically have decks that can crack, scratch, bend or even break apart.
When you compare the decks of the two scooters alone, the Patrol is an
easy decision.
The Patrol's motor is 250 watts. This is more power than the standard
180 watt scooter, but the power is still managable and gives you great
performance for a road scooter. The scooter delivers good speed at 16
mph on flat surfaces. This speed is good, but is not too fast for older
kids and teens. Moreover, the scooters 240 lb weight capacity is enough
to hold many adults, although when you get close to that weight you will
notice some performance degredation.
The Patrol 250 is not a true hill climber and will have significant
difficulty on steeper inclines. We would suggest that you use the
freewheel capability for these hills and this can help you save your
motor and battery as well. The freewheel capability is a nice feature
and will allow the rider to get more distance out of the battery and is
a great feature to have if you ever get stuck out on the road. Instead
of having to carry the unit back, you could use it as a kick scooter.
The Patrol also comes with a lot of extras. It has key start ignition,
an adjustable seat, battery indicator lights, and a twist throttle. In
addition, some versions of this unit come with a lockable trunk that can
mount of a rack that attaches to the back. Not all versions come with
the rack and trunkc, but this is a nice value added feature.
Particularly if you are carrying small stuff. The trunk is not large
but a person could put another pack or their own backpack on the back of
the rack.
The Patrol, like most, electric scooters is not built for the rain so
you don't want to get it wet. The battery case does offer more
protection than traditional plastic deck scooters, but you should be
careful when you go through water or mud. Just be sure to clean off the
scooter periodically and you should be okay.
In conclusion, kids are going to really enjoy this unit - they really
find that it looks cool. Adults should also be quite satisfied. It
offers the best performance we have seen for a scooter under $200. The
retail price of this scooter is usually $199 with shipping extra. We
believe that this unit will be one of the hottest Christmas gifts of
this year.
