On thing that a person will want to consider when conteplating
ordering an electric scooter is whether the scooter will be able
to climb up hills. This is not important if you live in an area
that is completely flat and doesn't have any hills. However, if
you plan on riding a scooter in a hilly area or at a mountain
campsite, you will want to pay careful attention to different
scooter characteristics. This article is designed to provide a
brief overview of what types of scooters will fare better when
climbing up hills.
One of the key dimensions that you will want to look at with the
electric scooter is the size of the motor. To carry a standard
180 lb adult up a normal hill would require a motor size of about
300 to 350 watts. A motor size that is smaller than this may have
some difficulty going up steeper hills with a fully grown rider.
Many kids scooters have motor sizes of around 200 watts. Although
these are great for kids and will go up some grades, they are not
designed for steeper hills with a full grown adult. Generally
scooters with power around 100 watts should not be ridden up hills.
The next key factor for electric scooters going up hills is the
weight of the rider. Common sense dictates that a heavier rider
will have more difficulty going up a hill on the same scooter than
a lighter rider. You should check the weight capacity for a
particular scooter and always ask if it is a good hill climber.
The weight capacity information can provide some clues as to whether
or not the scooter is powerful enough to take hills.
Clearly, it is importnat to determine whether the scooter you are
looking at will be able to go up hills. If you are in a hilly
area, you will do well to consider the weight of the rider, the
motor size, and the steepness of the hill. Each of these factor's
has an impact on whether the scooter will be able to go up hills.
